Off Post Housing

Fort Lewis is located near Tacoma, Washington, in Pierce County. This is in the northwestern part of the state in what is often called the Puget Sound region. Tacoma has Washington's third largest population; Pierce County and Thurston County, just south of post, are both in the top most populated counties as well.

The average price of a home in Pierce County is about $300,000. Thurston County averages about $273,000. These areas are slightly lower than the state average of $308,000. An average apartment rents for about $1,050.

Families have a wide variety of communities to choose from here, in terms of off post housing, since there are many towns and cities varying from urban to rural, all within a 20-40 minute commute of post. Olympia, Yelm, and Lacey offer suburban and rural living, while suburban to urban areas include Graham, Tacoma, Lakewood, Puyallup, and Steilacoom.
